I’ve been involved in photography for some 30 years. I’m an honors graduate from Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Communications in New York – which recently has been recognized as the top college journalism program in the country and has been recognized historically as one of the top producers of photojournalists in the U.S.
I’ve been employed primarily as an editor throughout my career, but I’ve always shot my own images as well. I’ve been steeped in the traditions of photojournalism and documentary photography, and that’s the approach I take with the shooting I do at Hopkins Photos. I spent 13 years as an editor in various capacities at The Washington Times newspaper in Washington, D.C., and I spent 10 years at AOL as an editor where I founded the acclaimed photo website, Pixcetera, which had a focus on great photography. Now I’m based in the Eugene, Oregon, area and as a Eugene photographer, I’m ready to take care of all of your Eugene photography needs.
I look forward to capturing spontaneous moments in your family’s life – whether it’s an event like a son’s or daughter’s soccer game, a dance recital or rehearsal, band, basketball, or something as simple as a bike ride or a hike. I love capturing the “found” moments within everyday living, and turning it into an image to treasure forever. Just scroll through the portfolios of images and blog posts on my website to get an idea of my style of shooting.
I’m also available for more formal photo sessions, like senior portraits or weddings, for example, to make memorable images.
Let’s get together and bring your family’s lives to light.
